Waud: “it’s a good way to start the year”

Gillingham Ladies defender Millie Waud spoke to the press after Sunday’s FA Women’s National League win over Milton Keynes Dons Ladies;

Waud on… First Win Of 2019: “We are just over the moon really, we knew it was going to be a tough game, but we have been preparing for it all over Christmas. So to win 2-0 we are buzzing and it’s a good way to start the year.”

Waud on… Early Goals In The Game: “We planned to play attacking, so it worked. Myself as a full back, we played really  high today and i thought it played really well. So to score two goals, we are over the moon with the first half, it takes a bit of the pressure off in what was going to be a close game. We had to battle in the second half to earn that 2-0 win, it’s all we wanted really.”

Waud on… A Well Earned Clean Sheet: “It was battle, we battled hard, stood our ground and kept that clean sheet.”

Waud on… Gap Between Gills and Relegation Zone: “It relieves a bit of pressure, it allows us to play out from the back a little bit more. We don’t have to have those scrappy games. It’s nine points for us, but we want to creep a bit further up the table with a few more wins. But importantly, we are happy with the result today.”

Waud on… Kent Cup Semi Final: “We aren’t going to take it lightly, we want to win. Last year we had a bit of a slip up, so this year we are going to make sure, hopefully we can get another cup under our belt, as well as doing well in the league this year.”
