Wheeler: “it’s nice for the girls to have a good cup run.”

Following Sunday’s FA WNL victory over Chesham United. Gillingham Ladies manager Jack Wheeler spoke to the press to give his views on the game and the Gills current cup run;

Wheeler on… about positives: “A clean sheet and scoring five goals is a big plus. A win’s a win at the end of the day but it’s always nice to keep a clean sheet and score plenty, and we haven’t done that in quite a long time. I was really pleased with how that’s happened, it was good for the girls to get those goals and build some confidence, especially for the forwards, and we’re very happy for the defenders having managed to keep a clean sheet, which will take us onto next week very nicely.”

Wheeler on… points for improvement: “Our performance overall was okay, it was good in spells, but it was just ok for most of the game. I definitely think that moving forward into next week we have a couple of years to go, MK Dons are going to be more competitive in coming to us and wanting to get a result, so yeah, basically looking to kick on next week to make sure we’re more positive and confident with what we’re doing, keep the goals and clean sheets coming. If we can do that, I’m sure we’ll get a positive result next week.”

Wheeler on…  keeping an eye on teams in the cup: “I haven’t been particularly watching any really. Whoever we draw, we draw, and it’s nice for the girls to have a good cup run. We’re in the semis of the Kent Cup and today has put us through to the next stage of the Women’s National League Plate, so there’s two positive cup runs for the club, we just need to keep on going and see if we can get a couple of finals out of them.”
