Patel wins Gills Ladies’ Social Media Goal of the Season

This week Vanisha Patel scooped the Gillingham Ladies’ Social Media Goal of the Season, the fan voted award, with 38% of the total votes. Winning this season’s accolade with her stunning left foot strike in the Kent Cup Final against Aylesford Ladies.

Speaking to the full back on Sunday after collecting the award from manager Jack Wheeler, Patel was ecstatic that her first goal for the club has won her the honour;

“I feel so happy! It was a goal that will certainly stick with me! My first for Gills and to score it in a cup final with my family and best friends there to see it makes it all the more special!”

Patel was surprised that her goal stood out amongst the other nominated goals to beat off the competition to be named Goal of the Season;

“Those girls score week in and week out and their goals have been the reason we have been so successful this year! For me, someone who doesn’t score often – if at all – it means a lot to be topped over this talented bunch that do this all the time!!!”

And Patel explained how was the competition perceived between those involved;

“Everyone involved in the competition actually voted for other people’s goals!”

Patel summed up by putting her thanks on record to those who voted for her goal in the poll;

Genuinely, thank you to everyone who voted for me. It’s been a really exciting season for me and to get some recognition for the hard work that’s taken place is really lovely!”
