Gibbons: “People won’t have seen all the hard work thats gone on behind the scenes, which is all massive”

Following triumphant victory and lifting the FA Women’s Premier League crown on Sunday afternoon, Gills captain Jade Keogh and top goal scorer Fliss Gibbons spoke to the press. Keogh and Gibbons gave their verdicts on securing the title and the game against Norwich.

Keogh on… Title victory: “Its such an amazing feeling, it’s been a long time coming. The girls have worked really hard this year, it’s so deserved, we’ve put the work in and worked hard for each other as a team. I do think we really deserve it as well.”

Gibbons on… Beating Norwich: “It’s easy to look at today’s game and think it’s been an easy ride, but people won’t have seen all the hard work thats gone on behind the scenes and stuff, which is all massive. Jack and the girls have put in a massive shift all season, which hasn’t been as easy at the 13-0 win today was. I think it’s all very well deserved.”

Keogh on… Pre match nerves: “I think there were, we have a group chat and we were all talking this morning, and had a couple japes about that. But once we got here, started warming up, we started to play the game and not the occasion. It all settled down and we did what we needed to do, we worked hard and put a good performance in and that was the main thing.”

Gibbons on… That fortunate deflection goal: “That’s the funniest goal I’ve ever scored, I don’t think I’m ever going to live it down. They all count don’t they! I think the 13-0 was a credit to our hard work. Today was a different story but throughout the season its everything we deserve, like Jade said it’s been a long time coming.”

Keogh on… Remaining fixtures: “We need to keep applying ourselves, we know we are league champions but we need to keep focus and keep doing what we have been doing and don’t let slip. We set ourselves goals and professional standards and as long as we go into those games with that same work rate, working for each other, we will be fine.”
