Following Sunday’s win over Stevenage Ladies, Gillingham Ladies manager Jack Wheeler spoke to reporters to give his verdict on the victory;

Wheeler on …. Gills Performance: “I’m pleased to get the three points, in terms of our performance I think we could of been slightly better today, but every team can’t play brilliant every single week. We’ve played well over the last three months, it’s maybe a sign of a good team that your not firing on all cylinders but do enough and put in enough to win the game. If you’d told me a 5-1 win before the game I’d of taken it.”

Wheeler on …. The Penalty Miss: “We’ve been going on to the girls to have a professional approach to each game, making sure they apply themselves in the right way, they have the right mentality. It [The Penalty Miss] could of been taken as a negative, it was good to see it wasn’t taken as a negative. The girls kept on going.”

Wheeler on …. Extending First Half Lead: “Any time a game is at just 1-0 it’s a bit of a knife edge, and all it takes is one mistake. You get a two goal lead and you can push on from there. If it had been one nil, two nil, three nil or four nil, our half time team talk wouldn’t of changed. We’d look and simplify things, get back to basics and make sure our intensity is there for the second half.”

Wheeler on …. Conceding Late: “Every manager wants clean sheets and loads of goals, it’s a slight negative but we’ve gone and won five one.”

Wheeler on …. MK away next: “MK have had lots of games so probably will appreciate the rest they got to go ahead of next week, our preparation won’t change again this week, we will make sure we put the things right and take the positives out of today and move on to next week and rolling to the crucial month coming up.”
