Gillingham Ladies goalkeeper Katie Startup spoke to reporters following the 5-1 win at home against Stevenage Ladies;

Startup on … Recent Performances: “Every week we put in a lot of effort, we work hard in training, we play our game every week, we know each of the other teams play differently and we don’t let that effect us. We like to play the ball around and we did that today, we got the win.”

Startup on … Competition Between Keepers: “It’s good competitiveness, we push each other on in training and games as well, having that competition drives both of us one to improve. It’s the best thing for the team, it’s not like a nasty competition we both support and help each other, give advice and stuff like that. I think it’s a good dynamic, we’ve both adapted, it works well with us.”

Startup on … Clean Sheet Record: “As a goalkeeper and part of the defensive unit, a main goal is to not concede. If you don’t concede you don’t lose the game, it’s the mindset I always go into. If we block them out, keep it tight at the back, then the rest of the game will take care of itself. We are very solid at the back and that gives us the freedom to play the way we do up front.”

Startup on … MK game next week: “It’s a big game, we like to build up to those, our squad love these big games. We like to play at the higher intensity, a quick tempo and take the game too them. A win their could sum up our season, a real push towards the end of the season. They are our closest rivals,  we want to play the same as we have against been, it could be a defining moment.”
