Following Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Denham United Ladies, manager Jack Wheeler spoke to reporters and gave hist views on his sides performance and what it meant to the current league positioning.
Wheeler on… The Result: “We were made to work hard in terms of the result, it was bit nitty gritty battly game today, but we come out with three points which is the most important thing. We may have been scoring quite a few goals in recent weeks, most importantly we get three points and on to next week.”
Wheeler on… The Conditions: “The weather always plays a part, it was really windy today. Which doesn’t always suit the way we play. Listen, It’s exactly the same for both teams, so we’ve got to get on with it.”
Wheeler on… Gills Stuttered First Half Performance: “We had a few words at half time, our application, work rate and standards weren’t quite up to what we set as a team. Our chat at half time was to settle everyone down really, the stop start nature with the referee being late.. will unsettle anyone really.”
Wheeler on… Rosie Kmita’s home debut: “She [Rosie] done really well, coming into the team and doing really well while settling in is the most important thing. She could have had an opportunity to score today, she’s worked really hard for the team and thats all we can as. When players come in if they take on board our training, don’t unsettle the team and work hard for the team and manager its happy days, over the moon.”
Wheeler on… Squad Selection: “From my point of view, the first thing we need to make sure on is that the girls all get on and all want to play for each other and for the badge. Then the second thing is to have the competitive squad. We currently have that. The girls I had to leave out last week, they are starters. You look at it from a collective, competitively it gives me a headache, a headache I don’t mind being in. We have to keep that competitive edge, everyone has to come and produce the goods when they get given the opportunities to come in and play. If you pick up an injury, you might not be back in for a few weeks, its just how it is.”
Wheeler on… Enfield Town Next Match: “The way in which Denham set up today, our next five matches will probably be carbon copies.I know whats coming our way, we’ve Enfield, Lowestoft, Stevenage and Enfield twice, they are teams that are lower half. Enfield you feel are out of the relegation battle but then there’s Stevenage and Lowestoft who are battling for survival in the league. Never ever going to be easy games.”
