Gills ladies manager Jack Wheeler spoke to our reporters following the Gills’ 10-1 victory over Luton Town, which saw his side close in on the top of the league.

Wheeler on… The performance: “Really happy, to get  10-1 victory over any team is really good for the teams confidence and they way they’re playing, and it shows you the ability we are capable of with this dominant result”

Wheeler on… Being back at K sports after 3 months away: “Really good to be back, the whole facility suits us really well in terms of what we are going on and off the pitch, which is testament to the result we got today”

Wheeler on… Cat Cooper re-joining the Gills: “I’ve known Cat for a number of years now, and she’s been doing really well away from Gills, and she is a good addition to this current squad. We have a really competitive squad here at the minute.”

Wheeler on… Fliss Gibbons: “Fliss done really well, her work rate is tireless. However it’s not just about Fliss, it’s about the whole team and she would be the first one to say exactly the same. It’s all about us as a team and making sure we get the three points”

Wheeler on… Norwich: “Hopefully more of the same, the message really is to try your best and to work hard for yourself and your team mates. As long as the girls keep following what they’re doing in training and apply themselves in the correct way there wont be many teams that stand in our way”

Wheeler on… Selection dilemma: “We have so much quality and depth within the squad, I have selection headaches every week. The girls know that they have to make the most of their opportunities when they play. It’s a good headache to have though, I’d rather it be this way than be in a situation where I don’t have enough players”

Wheeler on… The remaining fixtures: “Nothing is guaranteed until half past four on a Sunday afternoon, every game will be treated exactly the same, it doesn’t matter if we’re playing ‘Dog and Duck FC’ or Manchester City. We will take one game at a time  and that is the best approach to have for the girls and in terms of their mind-set, if we do that then I think we will reach our full potential”

Wheeler on… Having only one cup game left: “Don’t get me wrong, we love having the cup competitions, they’re good for squad morale, but we’ve now reached the business end of the season. This is when you find out what your team is really made of, it is great that we only have the one cup game left thought because before Christmas we had Denham (in the league) and then didn’t play another league game for a month due to cup fixtures”
