Gibbons and Symonds on Cambridge win

After last Sunday’s 4-1 home win against league leaders Cambridge United WFC, Gills’ midfielder Emily Symonds and forward Fliss Gibbons spoke to the media.

Gills extended their unbeaten run in the league to seven games, remaining the only unbeaten side left in the FA Women’s Premier League South East Division One.

Fliss Gibbons on… the performance: “The performance was everything we were hoping for, we went out and did everything we had worked on in training. We applied ourselves really well. I’m disappointed i didn’t get amongst the goals but its three points well earned and massive for us”

Fliss Gibbons on… Cambridge United WFC’s form “We knew they were a side that had only lost once, so we knew it would be a tough tie. Today’s result was massive for us. We focused on our target and such together and as Emily said we have a great team spirit and thats helping us”

Emily Symonds on… her first league goal for Gills: “It’s not often i score with my left foot, it’s not often i get the opportunity to score when i get in that position, so it was good to finish it off.”

Fliss Gibbons on… the confidence boost: “We can take loads of confidence from this game, we went out and performed really well, we need to take the momentum into the next game. We treat every game the same regardless of the opposition, wether it’s cup or league.”

Emily Symonds on… the confidence boost: “We work on each performance separately, we make aims going in to each game. Morale amongst players is helping us achieve good results

Fliss Gibbons on… the unbeaten run: “We haven’t really been thinking of that [the unbeaten league run], we work on everything the management have asked us to do, we make sure we do that and not think of the unbeaten run and take games as they come
