Gillingham Ladies 4 Cambridge United Ladies 1
Report by John Seager
Gillingham Ladies extended their unbeaten start to the season, with a comfortable win over table topping Cambridge United Ladies on Sunday afternoon.
Gillingham started the game brightly, taking the lead after just five minutes; Emma Tune drove the ball forward and was fouled on the edge of the penalty box. Tune took the resulting free kick and drove the ball under the jumping wall and the ball sailed into the bottom corner of the net.
Gills had a number of chances to add to their led as they continued to dominate the game. Felicity Gibbons and Amy Taylor created a chance each to score, but on both occasions, the ball went wide of the goal.
Cambridge came back into the game as they equalised just after the half hour mark. A corner for Cambridge was not properly cleared by the Gillingham defence, as the ball fell towards Nicole Perschky on the central edge of the penalty area, she hit a delightful volley which sailed past Katie Startup and the score was level.
Gills regained some momentum and retook the lead just before half time. Gibbons hit a shot towards goal but it was deflected wide. From the resulting corner, the ball was drilled to the back post and April Bowers bundled the ball past Crook and into the Cambridge net.

The second half saw Gillingham trying to dominate the game as they look close out an important win; however Cambridge was also trying hard to get back into the game. Both sides spent the first twenty minutes looking to control the game from midfield.
But it was Gillingham who added a third goal halfway through the second half. Tune worked the ball well in the middle before passing the ball to the left wing to Emily Symonds, who ran towards goal and slotted the ball past Crook to complete a well worked move by the Gills.
Their fourth goal came two minutes later, when the Gills broke on the counter attack; Taylor completed a good one-two move with Gibbons and then fired a low shot past Crook for a well worked fourth goal for the Gills.
