Gillingham Ladies returned to FA Women’s Premier League action on the road to face MK Dons LFC, for the first time since late November. A goal either side of half time was enough to secure three vital points for the Gills.


MK Don LFC made a good start to the match with shots on goal early in the first half but Courtney Shanly was able to save these comfortably.


Mid way through the first half, Gills Ladies had a good period of play with a couple of chances for Lauren Davis and Kallie Balfour, who came very close with the ball just going over the cross bar.


Gills were forced into a change late on in the second half when Lauren Davis was taken off due to injury and replaced by Shannon Redhouse.


Ten minutes before half time MK Dons LFC had a chance with a good strike from 25 yards that hit the bar, then shortly after Rachel Ahern played through Kallie Balfour who went one on one with MK Dons LFC keeper and Balfour calmly slotted the ball home to make it 1-0 to Gills Ladies.

The second half started with a great effort on goal by Lauren Williams with MK Dons LFC keeper pulling off a good save palming it away for a corner to Gills Ladies. From the corner Gills Ladies doubling their lead as the ball swung into the box, amongst a melee of players, Williams claimed the goal!


Gills Manager Jack Wheeler made his second change ten minutes into the second half Katie Hardaker being replaced by April Bowers, which was followed by a couple of half chances for MK Dons LFC.


Gills Ladies final change was made mid way through the second half with Ashleigh Loosemore being replaced by Lydia Wills. As Gills looked to settle into stride, another great chance fell for Kallie Balfour but was only stopped by a good save by the MK Dons keeper.


Late on in the second half Gills lost the ball deep in their own half, the ball was pounced on by MK Dons as they grabbed a goal but Gills Ladies saw it through to the end taking all 3 points winning 2-1.

Gills Ladies next league game is at home as they welcome the league leaders Crystal Palace LFC to Chatham Town FC on Sunday, February 28.
