Gillingham Ladies 0 Tottenham Hotspur Ladies 1

A spectacular free kick from Bianca Baptiste was enough for Tottenham Hotspur Ladies to progress through to the fourth round of the SSE FA Women’s Cup, as they saw off Gillingham Ladies at Chatham Town.

Spurs started the game well and their first chance came from a corner. The ball was crossed into the box, Baptiste was at the end of the cross and she hit the ball towards goal but the ball went wide.

Spurs did take the lead on eight minutes as they won a free kick, Baptiste drilled the ball from twenty yards out and the ball went over the wall and zipped into the top corner of the net.

Spurs almost doubled their lead when Avilla Bergin got ahead of her defender and she drilled a low shot towards goal, but Gills goalkeeper Courtney Shanly denied her by pulling off a great one handed save.

Spurs then had a chance to double their lead before half time; Baptiste got the ball inside the penalty box and drilled a low shot past Shanly, but Rachel Ahern cleared off the line.

The second half started with Spurs looking to double the lead and the first chance fell to Mollie Kmita. She got the ball from twenty yards out but her shot went high and wide of the goal.

Gillingham then started to create chances. Lauren Davis had a great chance from outside the box, but her shot never troubled Wayne as the ball went over the bar.

Gills then had a corner and the ball was passed to Ashleigh Loosemore. She was unchallenged and she hit a looping shot which beat Wayne but the ball just went over the bar.

Spurs did have the ball in the back of the net for a second time. The ball was passed down the left, and fed to Bergin who slotted the ball into the net, but the Linesman ruled out the goal out for offside.

Kallie Balfour had the final chance of the game for Gills. She worked hard to break through the Spurs defence and almost had a shot on goal, but an excellent slide tackle from the Spurs defender denied her the chance of putting the Gills on level terms.
