Wheeler said: “I’m really looking forward to getting back to Chatham as we have been away for the last three games and it will be nice to play in front of a supportive home crowd again.”
The Gills got off to a good start to the season at Chatham, beating Bedford Ladies 9-0. Wheeler is well aware that despite such a positive performance his team will have to be at their best to get a result against the Canaries.
“It will be a close contest on Sunday as Norwich have obviously improved on their squad from last year judging by the results they’ve achieved over their last three league games.”
“But I’m looking for performances from the girls and how we apply ourselves on Sunday, if we do all this correctly than I will be a happy manager.”
Ahead of the game, Wheeler revealed the team has been focused during the week.
“Preparation will be good for us ahead of Sunday. We arranged a friendly on Tuesday evening and will have a good session on Thursday evening back at Strood. I will have the players prepped and ready to go following Thursday’s training session.”
“The team has come a long way since the start of pre-season and we will be looking to make sure we are progressing at training and also on a match day.”
It’s been a testing opening for the Ladies as they adjust to a new League, one Wheeler believes is very open.
“Every team in this division is capable of beating anyone on their day. There are no simple games in this league which is why it is a good league as every game is competitive. So Norwich will be another good test for us on Sunday.”
