Despite having a shot cannoned off the cross bar, both Gillingham Ladies and Plymouth Ladies couldn’t break the deadlock as they played out an entertaining goalless draw at Chatham Town FC.
Gillingham started the game on the back foot as Plymouth had an early chance through Emily Mousley but it was dealt with by Courtney Shanly as she easily saved the effort from the edge of the penalty box.
Gillingham had their first chance of the game as Ashlee Hincks was played through on the right by Louise Lorton and drilled a cross into the penalty box where Sophie Brown was running in towards goal but Michaela Phillips got hold of the ball at the second attempt to deny.
Gillingham then started to control the game and Ellie Manning drilled in a deep cross from the left side of the pitch into the penalty box and Hincks got a foot one the end of the cross despite being surrounded by three Plymouth players. Hincks toe poked a chance at goal which had Phillips beaten but the ball went narrowly wide.
Gillingham had a mother chance to break the deadlock as some good pressing from Phillips saw the ball came the way of Emma Tune and she got away from two Plymouth defenders before hitting a low shot towards goal which beat Phillips but narrowly went wide of the right post.
Plymouth then won a free kick deep on the left side as Lorton conceded a foul, the ball was crossed in by Rebekah Rose but Manning jumped up and drilled a brilliant header away for Gillingham as they cleared out another Plymouth attack.

The second half began well for Plymouth as they pressed forward looking for a goal and it took another good header from Manning to deny Plymouth’s Rebekah Rose shot at goal as Manning got in the way of her shot at goal.
Gillingham then had their first chance of the second half as Phillips held the ball up and she passed it to Charlotte Long who hit a beautiful shot towards goal from outside the penalty area.
Phillips almost broke the deadlock as some good work down the right wing from Hincks and Charlotte Thruston saw a cross deep into the penalty box came the way of Phillips but Michaela Phillips bravely got low to save the cross and deny Phillips a chance for Gillingham.
Thurston was again in the thick of action again for Gillingham as she worked well through the middle of the pitch and got the ball before hitting a beautiful lob shot towards goal. The shot beat Phillips but the shot cannoned off the cross bar before being cleared away by Plymouth.
Plymouth had their best chance to score when Ellana Moseley broke though on goal and rounded Shanly and she hit a low shot towards goal but Manning was there again to clear the ball off the line.
Plymouth then started to pile the pressure on Gillingham as the second half came to a close and a good one-two between Rose and Ezme Wells saw Wells go through on goal and it had to take a great save from Shanly and a another goal line clearance this time form Emma Michelmore to deny another chance for Plymouth.
Wells had another chance to break the deadlock for Plymouth with five minutes left to go as she got the ball on the left and hit a delightful shot towards goal only for Shanly to brilliantly get behind her shot and gather the ball at the second attempt.
Gillingham pressed forward as the game came a close but they couldn’t create any further chances to break the deadlock.
