Gills Ladies Reserves vs Spurs

Despite a penalty miss from Ashleigh Loosemore, a single from Emily Lunn was enough to give Spurs Ladies Reserves all three points as they defeated an unlucky Gillingham Ladies Reserves side as they played their latest fixture in the FA Women’s Premier Reserve League.

Going into the match, Gillingham Ladies Reserves manager Jason Wright was happy with the performance his team as they defeated Billericay Town Ladies on Wednesday night in the Ryman League Cup. Wright was hoping for the same effort and passion against Spurs Ladies Reserves in a game which was played in wet and damp conditions at Chatham Town FC.

The game started with Gillingham on the front foot and Kayleigh Galvin had the first chance for them as she got the ball from a good pass from Chloe Cavenagh but she got too much behind her shot from outside the penalty box and the ball went out wide for a goal kick.

Keira Daulby and Galvin worked well as they nearly created another chance for Gillingham. Daulby worked well down the right before setting up Galvin and she was through on goal but again got too much behind her shot and the ball went high and wide over the bar for a goal kick.

Loosemore then had a great chance to score got Gillingham, she broke through on goal and she got her shot past Picton but her shot narrowly went wide of the post. Then the referee awarded Gillingham a penalty for a foul he spotted inside the penalty box from Picton on Loosemore. Loosemore stepped up to take the kick, She sent Picton the wrong way but he shot cannoned off the bar and the ball was cleared away by Spurs.

Spurs then worked hard to get the ball forward but they were limited to their chances, Ellis Lunn had a great chance to score as she held off her Long before hitting a powerful shot towards goal but her shot didn’t worry Alabaster as the shot went wide and out for a goal kick.

Spurs then won a free kick just outside the penalty box, Lipowska stood behind the ball, and hit a curling shot towards goal but her shot went well wide to the right of Alabaster’s goal and out for a goal kick.

Lipowska then had a great chance to score for Spurs as a looping cross from the back end of the pitch came her way, she did well to hold off Hollie Musmeci before getting her foot on a shot, it had Imogen Alabaster beaten but she got too much behind her shot and it ended up in the stand and out for a goal kick.

Tibbs then had another good chance for Spurs as they continue to look for a goal before half time, she broke away and held off Siobhan Read but Bonnie Long came over to distract her taking a shot and it worked as she hit a tame shot which was easily saved by Alabaster.

The game was then stopped as Keira Daulby got involved in a tackle whilst trying to win the ball back but she took an elbow to the back of the head and had to go off, she was replaced by Georgia Pilbeam.

Spurs then took the lead just before half time some poor defending saw Spurs push forward as it was Lipowska who got the ball and she laid it off to Lunn and she took her time before placing a powerful shot past Alabaster and it ended up in the back of the net.

Half Time: Gillingham Ladies 0 Spurs Ladies 1

The second half started with Gillingham Ladies looking to get back on level terms. But Spurs could have doubled their lead as some more good work from Lunn in the penalty box saw the ball came the way of Lipowska but she couldn’t compose herself in front of goal and her shot went well wide of the goal and out for a goal kick.

Gillingham almost got back on level terms as a defensive mix up in the Spurs back line saw Galvin got though on goal and she tried to chip the ball over Picton but despite getting the ball over Picton it cannoned off the bar.

Spurs then won a free kick on the edge of the penalty box after a foul by Musmeci, 30 stood over the ball and tried to curl a shot into the top corner but she couldn’t get the height or the power behind it and it was easily saved by Alabaster.

Spurs then had to make do with being down to ten players as Emily Tibbs got caught in a tackle with Read and had to come off with an ankle injury. Gillingham tried hard to capitalise on this but they couldn’t create any good chances.

But then Galvin and Cavenagh both broke forward and they had a great chance each to get Gills Ladies on level terms. Cavenagh broke away from her defender and rounded Picton before hitting a low shot which slowly cannoned off the post. On the rebound Galvin got the ball and took her time before hitting a low shot towards goal but the defender was there to clear the ball off the line and deflected the shout out for a Gillingham corner.

Things then got bad for Gillingham Ladies as a long ball was played though for Spurs and Long fouled the on rushing Spurs player and she was sent off for her second yellow card of the game.
