It’s the business end of the season; the time of year when the pressure goes up a notch and points make prizes and league titles. Gillingham Ladies Lisa Fulgence has been enjoying a prolific goal scoring streak during this crunch period, exemplified on Sunday afternoon as Lisa bagged herself a hat-trick in 19 minutes against Chesham.
“The first one was me just being in the right place, Dee Cooper kept it in from a goal kick and I literally tapped it in on the line. The next two were great balls in from Gurrs – both corners – I was on the keeper with no marker, just dropped off with the flight of the ball and scored two headers (which was a surprise)”
After a disappointing loss against Keynsham, Lisa was pleased how her goals helped contribute to a very important comeback. Lisa revealed: ” We don’t like losing and we know we didn’t play our game against Keynsham, so this game helped us get back on track.”
“We knew what we had to do against Chesham, from the start we made sure the intensity and tempo was there. We played our game and the result follows! That was missing from last week.”
Lisa’s focus now turns to Thursday and the opportunity to play in another cup final. After her brilliant performance last month in the Kent Women’s Cup, it’s an opportunity as an individual and team-mate that Lisa is relishing.
“I’m feeling great, we’ve had a good training session and as long as we get out what we done in training we should play well and keep up what we have been trying to do all season long.”
“As long as the performance is there the result will hopefully come along with it. But I don’t think it will matter as we have been able to put to bed everything from one game to the next. Win, lose or draw the next game is a fresh start! BUT winning a cup is something special, so it can’t hurt our league campaign!”
Lisa’s goals have been contributing at the business end of the season and given her a huge boost in her first season as a Gills Ladies player.
“I’ve been feeling more confident after a few training sessions based on finishing. Me and the girls have been having a bit of banter about me catching up, but me and Gurrs have said to have two strikers on 20 + goals for the season is a great success. I’m pushing for the 20 mark anything over that is a bonus”
Come and support Lisa and the girls this Thursday at Chatham Town FC as they compete against Haverhill Ladies at 7:45pm.
