After an emphatic 6-0 win over Herne Bay Ladies in their Ryman League Cup Semi Final last night, Gillingham Ladies manager James Marrs was absolutely ecstatic with the team performance from the game and is happy of reaching another cup final.
“It’s always nice to get to a final of a competition. We set out our stall from the start and made sure that we had specific targets that we wanted to hit.”
“We’ve been working with the girls in training and they did do that in the second half which is really pleasing and it helps erase the defeat from last Sunday.”
With some players putting in some fantastic performances including Fliss Gibbons and Lisa Fulgence who scored twice, Marrs picked out Deanna Cooper for special prise on her performance.
“I thought Deanna was absolutely outstanding tonight. Both at centre half and centre forward, her movement was terrific, she looked nice and sharp. She looked really hungry tonight which was pleasing to see.”
Attention now moves to the very important FA Women’s Cup Fourth Round match and according to Marrs, Gills Ladies will be fully prepared for the challenge of facing Preston North End Ladies on Sunday.
“Everyone is fit, everyone wants to play, no-one wants to rest. We have got nothing to lose, it is the FA Cup, the magic of the cup and it is a huge game for us. It’s the joint furthest we have ever been along with last year and it’s a definite winnable game for us.”
The game on Sunday is a 2pm kick off at the game is being played at Chatham Town FC on Maidstone Road.
