Gills fell to their only defeat of the season at Lewes, the reverse fixture is this Sunday at Chatham.

Gillingham Ladies take on Lewes Ladies this Sunday, as the Gills look to put right the only defeat of the season so far, which was 3-1 at the hands of Lewes away at the Dripping Pan.

Gills go into the match following last weekends fantastic 2-1 win at QPR in the FA Cup, a postponed tie against Herne Bay in the Ryman League Cup has given the Gills a brief break in a busy week of fixtures. Both matches have been away from home, so the visit of Lewes will pose the Gills first home fixture of 2014.

We’ve met before:

Last season Gills won the fixture at Chatham 1-0, a Deanna Cooper goal 5 minutes from time was enough to secure Gills three points. But away the Gills conceded a goal in the opening minute, Naomi Coles long shot caught out Gills keeper Charlotte Stevens and into the back of the net. Gills went on the lose the game 3-0.

The Gills, as we have mentioned, have already faced Lewes this season away in early December. With the Gills embarked on their best ever run in form, unbeaten in ten games since the start of the season. However like last season it was a recurring theme of an early goal at the Dripping Pan, an Ashleigh Goddard strike in the 4th minute of the game sounded the way the game would unfold. Naomi Cole and Kelly Newton added to Lewes lead before Nikita Whinnett found the net for a Gills consolation late on in the game.
