Gillingham Ladies romped to a 5-1 victory against Spurs on Sunday afternoon at Chatham Town.
After a slow start, Gills began to orchestrate the tempo of play and were rewarded as Amy Taylor smashed a right footed volley into the back of the net.
Minutes later, the Gills surrendered their lead as a Spurs attacker was found unmarked six yards out to put the ball beyond Gills keeper Faye Baker.
At 1-1 Gillingham began to take control of the game, returning to their patient passing play to frustrate and tire their opponents.
Emma Tune put Gills in front with a smart turn and finish in the area. The Gills went in at half time with a 2-1 win.
Gillingham enjoyed a much better second half performance, spending long periods of the remaining 45 minutes attacking the Spurs half.
Tune grabbed a brace to extend the Gills lead, making it four goals in three games for the midfielder. After some fantastic build up play, Charlotte Gurr teed up the opportunity on the edge of the box for Tune to rocket the ball into the back of the net.
Gurr managed to get her name on the scoresheet too when Fliss Gibbons was hauled down in the box. Gurr stepped up to take the resulting spot kick and placed the ball perfectly to beat the Spurs keeper.
Gillingham got their fifth as Lisa Fulgence made a huge impact off the bench. Fulgence showed great strengh and determination to shake off her marker after being fed in on goal from a great pass from Danielle Carlton. Fulgence delivered the finish and ensured three points stayed in Kent.
Gills Ladies stay top of the FA Women’s Premier Southern Division as they remain undefeated from the start of the season.
