Gillingham Ladies winning streak continued as they stormed to victory with a rampant opening 45 minutes against Coventry Ladies.
Gills took the lead after 5 minutes when Fliss Gibbons robbed Coventry of possession before exchanging passes with Charlotte Gurr who manage to feed the ball through the two Coventry centre backs to the Gills loanee. Gibbons cooly placed the ball into the far corner.
Danielle Carlton added to her season’s considerable tally from a smart set piece. The Gills midfield beautifully curled the ball from 25 yards out into the top left hand corner.
Gillingham continued to dominate the game and their ruthless finishing stunned Coventry.
Jade Keogh made it three goals in three games as she dispatched a loose ball in the box with a powerful volley that left the Coventry keeper with no chance.
Lauren Williams caused Coventry problems down the right wing throughout the first half and was rewarded for her efforts on the stroke of half time. Charlotte Long managed to feed the ball into Williams’ path, unlocking the shaky Coventry defence.
Williams kept her composure to exploit the time and space gifted to her and blasted the ball into the back of the net to give Gills Ladies a four goal cushion at half time.
Coventry sought a way back in the game throughout the second half but the Gills defence marshalled by keeper Faye Baker collected another deserved clean sheet.
The Gills continue to sit at the top of the league, with the best defensive record and goal difference in the division.
