Gillingham Ladies prepare for Chesham LFC visit this Sunday

Gillingham Ladies have the great pleasure of welcoming Chesham Ladies Football Club to Chatham FC this Sunday.

History

The club was formed in 1996. Just one season in, the club was taken on by Sian Williams, Lisa Welling and Christine Thornton. In 1997 the club linked up with Don Wrights Chesham Youth team in what proved to be a very wise and profitable move,.

The team progressed through the Southern Region to become League and Cup winners 1999/00 and 2000/01.

In 2001/02 Chesham LFC made the step up to the Southeast Combination League where and finished credibly in 5th place in their first season.

The next season the Ladies moved to the South West Combination, where the finishing position improved season on season for three consecutive years (5th, 4th and 3rd respectively).

In the 2003/04 season Chesham won the Berks and Bucks Cup for the first time beating Reading Ladies 3-1 in the final.

Since then the club has been continuing its steady progress. The club is now managed by Ed Keeler.

Results

Chesham Ladies got the worst possible start to the season falling a goal behind to Portsmouth Ladies after one minute. The Ladies fought their way back into the game but ended up on the wrong side of a 3-1 final score.

They’ll be looking to grab their first points of the season to take back to Buckinghamshire and will be another tough test for the Gills.

Team News

Gills Ladies were rocked by the news of injury to club captain and defensive rock Vicky Ashton-Jones, whose been ruled out for a period with a ruptured acl and torn meniscus In her knee.

Besides that set back, James Marrs has a fully fit squad to select from.

Come and cheer Gills Ladies against Chesham on Sunday 8th September. Kick off is at 2pm.
